The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) and the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in telecommunications policy and regulation.
The agreement was signed on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in recognition of the importance of collaboration and the shared desire to promote bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications sector.
According to the parties, the MoU is intended to strengthen the relationship between TATT and the FCC while increasing engagement on regulatory policy matters between the two telecommunications regulators.
The agreement acknowledges the significant role both organisations play in promoting telecommunications development, competitive markets, technological innovation and efforts to bridge the digital divide in their respective countries.
Under the MoU, TATT and the FCC will establish a non-binding framework for the mutually beneficial exchange of ideas on telecommunications regulatory policy. The initiative is expected to contribute to the advancement of communications systems in both Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.
The regulators also intend to share information related to telecommunications, broadcasting and associated facilities and services, in accordance with their respective national laws, regulations and international obligations, and within the scope of their mandates.
Areas identified for cooperation include spectrum management, licensing, regulatory issues, broadband connectivity, infrastructure deployment and emerging telecommunications trends, including 5G technology.
Both parties welcomed the signing of the MoU as a demonstration of mutual benefit and institutional cooperation.
The memorandum will remain in effect for a period of three years.
