Teachers Set To See Salary Boost By End Of January 2026

Teachers are being assured that their new salaries will be in bank accounts at the end of January 2026.

This comes as the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teacher’s Association accepted a 5% wage increase with staggered raises and COLA consolidation under the former administration.

The settlement was for the 2020-2023 period, with the 5% increase to be distributed over three years at 1%, 1% and 3%. There will also be a consolidation of the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

Speaking outside the office of the Chief Personnel Officer on Wednesday following what he called cordial discussions, TTUTA President Crystal Ashe had good news for the nation’s teachers.

“Come January month-end, as well as we have been told and promised, all members of the teaching service will be receiving their new salary. That’s promising news, that’s positive news.”

The TTUTA President said a Cabinet Note on the matter is expected to be tabled as early as Thursday.

He said the next matter to be dealt with is the additional funds to be paid.

“Back pay, as we said, will take a little longer, so we are hoping for the end of the first quarter, as we would have promised you. Dr. Daryl Dindial has made commitments to certain things, and he seems like a very genuine individual, and we would want to hold him to the promises he would have made to TTUTA on this particular day.”
