THA Chief Secretary Wants Answers On Vessel

Now that the vessel that caused an oil spill in Tobago has been identified, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine laments there are several unanswered questions.

On Wednesday, the Tobago House of Assembly held a media briefing in Scarborough where he explained he received word on the findings through a whatsapp message and a media release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.

Chief Secretary Augustine questioned why the owners of the vessel have not yet visited Tobago to speak with the clean-up team, the current name of the vessel and the type and quantity of the substance the vessel was carrying.

While the THA continues to demand answers, Chief Secretary Augustine informed that significant progress has been made on the clean up in Scarborough, however efforts continue at surrounding shorelines and the lagoons as the substance continues to leak from the vessel. He informed the material is moving approximately 88 kilometres out of Tobago, therefore it can become a risk to neighbouring waters.
