The Roxborough Hospital was not constructed to facilitate a 24-hour service.
This, according to Secretary of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, Dr. Faith B Yisreal, who told TTT News that the Tobago House of Assembly is currently exploring options to either provide off-site accommodations and facilities for staff or constructing an addition to the structure.
She also made reference to the THA’s last Plenary sitting where she explained the facility constructed under the People’s National Movement’s THA administration was not purpose-built. Dr. B Yisreal stated retrofitting and renovations were required and some machinery had to be recertified.
The $98 million Roxborough hospital was officially opened on January 5th, 2021 while the previous PNM-led THA was in office. However, all services were not operationalised.
