THA’s Social Protection Division Fires Hanif Benjamin Over Sexual Misconduct Charges

Former Director of Social Protection Dr. Hanif Benjamin has been fired from the Tobago House of Assembly’s Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection.

The development comes approximately one month after Mr. Benjamin was arrested and charged for sexual offences.

The Division via a statement informed that the matter was addressed as swiftly as allowed with the Secretary of Health overseeing the necessary protocols to ensure a prompt resolution.

The DH-WSP said its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct remains firm and the well-being of employees, partners and the communities continues to be top priority.

The Division stressed that they remain dedicated to swift action in the face of misconduct and justice for affected parties.

On July 31st, Dr. Benjamin was granted $170,000 bail on two charges under the Children’s Act: sexual communication with a child, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
