The Sound Of Home: Blak Kofi On Music, Identity And T&T

As Trinidad and Tobago approaches 64 years of Independence, musicians Dean Williams and Alicia Knights of Blak Kofi join Virmala to explore the sounds, stories and experiences that shape our understanding of home.

Following an unexpected jam session that sparked their musical partnership, the duo has developed a sound blending jazz, soul, R&B and Caribbean influences. They discuss Alicia’s return to Trinidad and Tobago after 33 years in the United States, Dean’s decades in the local music industry, the importance of preserving musical traditions while embracing innovation, and what home means to them as musicians.

They also give us a special performance of some of our national songs.
