Combat sports were front and centre with a multi-discipline card at the National Cycling Velodrome in Couva.
Trinidad and Tobago national boxer Tianna Guy stated that “The Headliner” served its purpose, which was to provide a platform to showcase local combat sport fighters.
“For years I have seen a lot of combat athletes suffer while representing the country for various reasons, and the purpose of TMG Promotions of Headliner is to more or less bridge the gap between the public and the athletes. So this night, this event, was put together to showcase all the combat sports we have in Trinidad and Tobago.”
Guy also highlighted the importance of showcasing stick-fighting outside of the Carnival period.
“One art form I think goes unnoticed for years is kalinda, stick fighting and that was the reason why I insisted that through Kalinda Collective, through Camboulay, through Keegan-Taylor, through Taylor, through Roto, and through all the stick fighting community to put stick fighting in front of the public outside of Carnival.”
