Toco/Sangre Grande Families Receive Keys To Starter Homes

Thirty two families in North East Trinidad have received new homes in time for Christmas.

On Friday, the Land Settlement Agency went into the community of Pine Settlement, Sangre Grande to distribute keys to starter homes under the Housing and Village Improvement Programme (HVIP).

Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande, Roger Monroe, said, “This is our gift to you. The Government’s gift to you. You are gifted a home, a house, that you don’t really have to pay anything back for, so that is, what a lovely gift to get. Not so?”

The Housing and Village Improvement Programme is described as designed to target areas with neglected infrastructure and poor quality housing, and provide the necessary intervention and improvements.

“As we could witness here, this new house would become a home in a few days, and I’m very sure that the recipient is more anxious, just as you all, to enter into his new house and make it a home. I want to urge you all to understand that this is the Government’s commitment to you, our constituents, the citizens, to gift you as we are in the season of Christmas, and giving, and sharing”

As he distributed the keys at Pine Settlement, MP Monroe reminded beneficiaries that they are starter homes.

“I encourage each and every one of you all, don’t leave it as is. Do your ever best to improve it. Do your ever best to enhance it and protect it so that you and your generations to come would have something that you would be able to call a home and pass down from generation to generation.”

MP Monroe said he would continue to do whatever he can to assist constituents when it comes to the improvement of their housing and living standards.
