The race to the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections has begun with the dissolution of the House.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Political Leader of the Tobago People’s Party (TPP), Farley Augustine, said the party is confident of a second term.
“We are confident that we will perform as well as we did in the last election. We are going into this election now having 13 seats, and we are confident that we will be able to retain those and add to the 13. As perhaps is already in the public space, we have screening starting this evening at five. We screen for about two or three districts this evening. The majority will take place on Sunday.”
Next week, the TPP will announce their full slate.
Mr. Augustine hinted that the party will be campaigning on their achievements and the Development Pathway created for Tobago for the period 2025–2040.
However, Mr. Augustine remained tight-lipped about an election date.
“It will be between two to three months from yesterday. The law says that I have to advise the Prime Minister and the President. I have not given such advisement yet. I am still sleeping on it, thinking about it, praying about it, but certainly in due course the President will be advised of a date, and that will be announced to the public.”
He reminded that, based on the THA Act, the elections must be called within three months after the dissolution of the House.
