Tobago People’s Party Leader, Farley Augustine, is promising an improved water supply for Charlotteville.
Speaking at a political meeting on Sunday, Mr. Augustine shared that upon assuming office, his THA administration advocated for work to be done on the Campbellton Dam.
“While I am not satisfied that the dam in Campbellton is producing sufficient water, we have already advanced with WASA. Since the government change, since you voted for Thomo, we have advanced with WASA plans for the desalination plant to the extent that the tender documents are being drafted up because I want to make sure that whenever I come Charlotteville and go up the hill by my mother-in-law, I can take a little bath because we have water in the pipe. We have to fix that problem within this year.”
Mr. Augustine also promised that Charlotteville will soon receive its long-promised community facility. He recalled that after the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) won the Tobago House of Assembly elections in 2021, UDeCOTT pulled out of the project. The TPP Leader said the THA was then informed that over $1 million was outstanding for architectural designs for the structure.
“We paid the one point something million for the architectural drawings. Then the contractor to start. To date, now I can tell you in the last fiscal year, that is the fiscal year that ended in September, we have paid to the contractor over $5 million to get the work going. When you look on the side, you see columns going up and I know they were preparing for concrete on Friday. So they are approaching the point where they are going up now to roof height because the project is actually running apace. When completed, that project will cost about $17 million.”
According to Mr. Augustine, the facility, which will include both a pavilion on the rooftop and a community centre, should be completed by July 2026.
