The Tobago People’s Party is applauding the Central Government for the increase in flights on the domestic air bridge.
On Monday, Caribbean Airlines announced that an 11:30pm flight from Trinidad and a 12:30am flight from Tobago were included for the summer period.
The TPP said this outcome followed a formal request they made on June 27th, adding that the government has shown a readiness to listen, engage, and respond.
The party said the decision brings much-needed relief to Tobagonians and demonstrates the results that can be achieved when Tobago’s concerns are treated with urgency and respect.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Tobago Business Chamber, Martin George, is commending Caribbean Airlines and the Central Government for the return of the late-night flights on the domestic air bridge. He said the flights were essential.
“For businesspersons or persons who had to travel between the islands for the purposes of either education or schooling, or persons who needed just to be able to get things done in Trinidad for an entire day and then to be able to head across to Tobago. Even for vacationers, these flights were useful because if you had a last-minute plan to fly to Tobago, you would normally be able to get on to those flights. Even for persons staying in Tobago who went on vacation in Tobago, they can stay later and take this very late flight and come back to Trinidad.”
Mr. George said this decision will positively impact Tobago’s economy.
“We definitely look forward to increased business, increased passenger flows as a result, and we hope that these flights will be a permanent fixture as part of the Caribbean Airlines repertoire. We have said repeatedly we cannot be expanding Caribbean Airlines into servicing all the other islands, up the island chain, and you are not properly servicing your domestic route, so now that these flights are back, we are very happy.”
