The Ministry of Trade and Industry is expanding digital services to improve the ease of doing business in Trinidad and Tobago.
Five new e-services were launched as part of the Ministry’s TT BizLink services.
Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon said the e-services are designed to streamline the approval process in the scrap metal and tourism sectors.
Three of the services are administered by the Ministry’s Trade Licence Unit, and two fall under the oversight of Tourism Trinidad Limited.
“The first one, notice of intention to load scrap metal for export, and this service allows approved scrap metal dealers in Trinidad and Tobago to request appointments for the supervision of loading scrap metal for export by submitting their notice of intention to load online.”
She said approved scrap metal dealers can now apply online for permits to either alter the size of scrap metal for easier transport or ship broken machinery directly from the point of purchase. These services aim to simplify logistics and reduce processing times in the scrap metal sector.
Minister Gopee-Scoon said tourism developers will also benefit from a more efficient approvals process for project incentives and duty-free imports.
“The fourth is interim approval for a tourism project. This service allows entities to receive interim approval for incentives for the construction of tourism projects that would assist the development of the tourism industry. This administering body is Tourism Trinidad Limited.”
The fifth is duty-free permits for a tourism project, and this service allows entities who have been granted interim approval to apply online for a permit to import items free of customs duty for the respective tourism project.
