During the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Winnipeg, Canada, T&T’s Jerneil Nivet and Michael Joseph earned certification as International Powerlifting Federation Category Two International Referees.
T&T powerlifter Deresay Jay Alleyne, who also competed at the event, described the achievement as amazing news for the sport in T&T.
“That was amazing. Before them, we had one Category 1 referee, which is the highest level of referees, and we had two Category 2 referees. To now have four Category 2 referees for a small federation like us is amazing. It’s an amazing accomplishment. We have a lot of national referees, and hopefully in 2027, we can take them out and get some more Category 2 referees as well.”
