Trinidad and Tobago is in dialogue with officials in the United States regarding energy security and other matters.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC shared this information at the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing on Thursday, highlighting her administration’s progress regarding energy matters.
“A short while ago I met with the officials from the US Embassy to discuss areas of cooperation for energy security as well as for other security, and the Minister will share some of that and what we plan to do in the energy sector.”
Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, said the Cabinet also dealt with energy matters.
“Cabinet authorised the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries to embark on a very important trip, along with a small delegation, to the United States of America in the period May 28th to 30th, to travel to Washington DC and to undertake a series of important meetings.”
He said the delegation is scheduled to meet officials from the US Departments of Energy, State, and Treasury.
“In the United States we will also engage with senior officials, apart from State, Treasury and Energy, but also with officials of Shell Global, the Americas Council, the Inter-American Dialogue. We will meet senior officials of those organisations to discuss with them our mutually beneficial interests in the area of security.”
The Energy Minister also said talks are ongoing with Grenada and Guyana about working together on energy matters.
