Over 80 films will be represented in this year’s Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival (TTFF), which will bring Caribbean stories and narratives home through films created by local and regional filmmakers.
TTFF Director, Mariel Brown, said the festival, which begins on September 24th, Republic Day, promises to offer a range of Caribbean stories.
“We’re trying to tell the stories of the Caribbean from within and to ensure that what we are saying about ourselves, how we view ourselves, what our lived experience of today is, is what is being represented in film, and so it’s not a kind of sort of external view of us, it’s us seeing ourselves talking about ourselves, telling our own stories.”
Programme Coordinator Patrice Matthews added that the festival, through workshops and panel discussions, will cater to upcoming and seasoned filmmakers alike, creating opportunities for networking and learning.
“On the 26th and the 27th will be industry programme days, where it’s going to be a really dynamic array of panel discussions and workshops covering all the aspects of filmmaking. So from production to shopping your film internationally on the film circuit, creating a series. So basically, whether you are an emerging filmmaker or a seasoned filmmaker, there’s something for everyone.”
