T&T Highlighted As Strategic Maritime Hub During USS Nimitz Visit

Trinidad and Tobago occupies an important position at the crossroads of the Caribbean and South America.

That’s according to Commander of the Carrier Strike Group 11, Rear Admiral Cassidy Norman, emphasising T&T’s strategic importance, as he welcomed a delegation from T&T on the USS Nimitz earlier this week.

In a media release from the US Embassy on Friday, it noted that the aircraft carrier is on its “final deployment”.

T&T’s delegation included Ministers Jearlean John, Saddam Hosein, Wayne Sturge, and Chief of Defence Staff Commodore Don Polo, among others.

Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge described the experience as “a signature moment,” noting that the tour offered valuable insight into US naval operations while deepening ties between the two nations.

The visit took place as the historic USS Nimitz executed Southern Seas 2026, a mission deployed to enhance maritime capability and strengthen multinational partnerships.
