Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to regional partnership and multilateral engagement, Trinidad and Tobago is participating in the Brazil-Caribbean Summit 2025, in Brasília, Brazil, with a delegation led by Permanent Secretary and Head of the Foreign Service, Mr. Randall Karim, Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
The Summit was held today, June13th, 2025, in Brasília, Brazil, under the auspices of His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.This high-level engagement is demonstrative of Trinidad and Tobago’s active role in fostering dialogue between CARICOM and Brazil.
Participation in the Summit is especially significant given recent developments, including the convening of the inaugural meeting of the CARICOM-Brazil Joint Commission in April, 2025. The Commission identified critical thematic areas for collaboration, including trade and investment; air transport; disaster risk management; food security; water resource management; public health; and youth development through culture and sport.In addition, the Summit offers a vital platform to deepen partnerships in environmental resilience, infrastructure and education, while also promoting inclusive public policy initiatives across the Caribbean.
Of note, is the 55thAnnual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank’s Board of Governors, which was scheduled on the margins of the Brazil-Caribbean Summit.
The Trinidad and Tobago’s delegation also included Ms. Ayesha Wharton, Director of the CARICOM and Caribbean Affairs Division, and Mrs. Charlene Lashley-Caruth, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, in Brasília.
