The Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 Women’s team kicked off their Concacaf World Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday with a 2–2 draw against group hosts Curaçao. Despite the result, head coach Ayana Russell stated that she is proud of her team’s performance, which sees them sitting at the top of Group F.
The road to the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup officially began on Saturday for Trinidad and Tobago, who took on Group F hosts Curaçao. After a goalless first half, the hosts opened the scoring courtesy of a long-distance strike by Jacelyn Jubithana.
T&T would equalize six minutes later after an equally impressive strike by Jade Jones. Foreign-based player Sanni Wilson would then give T&T a precious 2–1 lead in the 80th minute. However, it was not to be for the national women, who surrendered the lead in the 83rd minute.
T&T would go on to draw the match 2–2, beginning their Group F campaign with a point. While disappointed with the result, head coach Ayana Russell was pleased with her team’s performance. Russell shared that she would like to see her team improve in all aspects heading into their second match against Barbados.
T&T will take on Barbados this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m.
