Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela have agreed to a new framework aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural relations following high-level talks in Caracas between Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Sean Sobers and Venezuelan officials.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday afternoon, both governments described Minister Sobers’ visit as the beginning of a “new chapter” in relations between the neighbouring countries.
The statement said the Foreign Ministers held a productive meeting and developed a “work agenda” intended to launch a new era of cooperation under the leadership of Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez and T&T Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
It said the agenda is a roadmap for heightened cooperation in key areas, including trade, energy, agriculture, culture and collective security.
Venezuela also expressed gratitude to T&T for its support following the double earthquake that struck the South American nation on June 24th.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining permanent channels of communication to advance the established agenda.
