The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is acknowledging reports of a brief power ‘dip’ that was experienced across several communities in Trinidad at approximately 8pm on Thursday 10th September 2026.
The ‘dip’, although brief in nature, subsequently resulted in short-duration interruptions for several industrial customers. Additionally, residential areas which were affected by this momentary outage (10 seconds) were, Madras Road, Chin Chin Road and St Lucien Road, Diego Martin.
An investigation was concluded on the morning of September 11th, 2026, with the cause of this ‘dip’ originating from a fault on the Bamboo/ Orange Grove 66kV sub transmission circuit. Conclusive evidence shows that the fault was caused by an Opossum. The issues were promptly addressed by T&TEC’s technical teams and the affected areas were quickly
normalised.
It must be noted that there is no corelation to the current naturally occurring meteorological phenomenon El Nino, as it pertains to this isolated event. T&TEC remains committed to delivering a reliable and secure electricity supply and continues to actively monitor the grid.
