The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service (TTPrS) continues to intercept attempts by individuals to circumvent established prison security measures and introduce prohibited articles into the prisons.
At approximately 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, acting on information received that a package had been thrown over the perimeter wall of the Port of Spain Prison, Prison Officers conducted a search of the vicinity of the south-western side of the institution.
During the search, Officers discovered a black plastic bag containing a white gallon bottle. An examination of the bottle revealed the following prohibited articles:
- Two hundred and thirty (230) grams of plant-like material resembling that of marijuana
- Twelve (12) packs of RAW wrapping paper
- Four (4) packs of Bambu wrapping paper
- Nine (9) cigarette lighters.
Investigations into the discovery are continuing with the assistance of external law enforcement agencies.
The TTPrS remains concerned about the continued attempts by individuals to circumvent prison security measures through methods such as throw-overs and other means of introducing prohibited articles into the prisons. These actions pose a serious threat to the safety and security of Prison Officers, Inmates, visitors and the wider public, while undermining ongoing efforts to maintain secure and rehabilitative correctional environments.
The Prison Service is therefore warning members of the public that introducing prohibited articles into a prison is a serious offence and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The TTPrS will continue to employ intelligence-led operations, surveillance and other security measures to detect and prevent the introduction of contraband into its prisons.
