TTPS: 81 Arrests in 72 Hours

A major police crackdown across T&T over the last 72 hours has led to the arrest of over 80 individuals.

It comes following the declaration of a State of Emergency on Friday morning.

Intensified operations by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service over the last 72 hours, involved 185 coordinated exercises as at 1pm on Sunday.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, 1,185 searches were carried out, leading to the arrest of 81 individuals.

Among them, 70 were identified as priority offenders.

Police also recovered eight illegal firearms, including 4 pistols, 2 revolvers, a shotgun, and a rifle, along with 47 rounds of ammunition and quantities of cannabis.

Via a media release, Police Commissioner, Allister Guevarro stated that, “These results are a clear indication that sustained operational pressure can yield tangible outcomes in the fight against crime and traffic violations.”

He added further that “The officers remain vigilant and committed to disrupting criminal activity, protecting communities, and ensuring safer roads.”

The operations by officers also detected 715 traffic offences, as police ramped up enforcement on the nation’s roads.

The Police Service said these efforts were intelligence-driven and involved multi-agency collaboration, with a focus on not just enforcement, but deterrence and community reassurance.
