The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) proudly commemorates a historic milestone today: the 70th Anniversary of Women in Policing.
Seventy years ago, a courageous group of women made history when they joined the TTPS, breaking barriers and paving the way for generations of female officers. Today, women proudly serve across every division and rank, contributing leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication to policing and public safety.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin, in delivering remarks to the media, reflected on this remarkable legacy: “Seventy years ago, a few brave women stepped forward to serve; today, their courage lives on in every woman who wears this uniform and protects our nation.”
DCP Martin emphasised that the anniversary is both a celebration of progress and a call to action for the future: “As we mark this milestone, we honour our pioneers and retirees who built a legacy of excellence. We recommit to empowering women in law enforcement, advancing opportunities for leadership, and strengthening the bond between our officers and the communities we serve.”
The 70th Anniversary celebrations will feature a formal Inauguration Ceremony, Dinner, and Awards Celebration, where pioneers, retirees, and outstanding officers will be honoured for their service, bravery, and contributions to policing. The TTPS will also host a series of commemorative events highlighting its commitment to equality, professionalism, and innovation.
As the nation also prepares to mark Independence Day, DCP Martin extended greetings to citizens: “Happy Independence, Trinidad and Tobago! As we approach this historic day, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and unity of our people. Let us honour our past, cherish our present, and work together to build a future filled with peace, progress, and pride.”
