The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) acknowledges recent reports highlighting illegal quarrying and mining activities in the Sangre Grande, Valencia, and Manuel Congo regions.
These unauthorised operations have raised significant environmental and infrastructural concerns, including disruptions to operations at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) water treatment plant.
In direct response, the Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, led a targeted operation yesterday, Wednesday 2nd, July 2025, in the affected areas to assess the situation on the ground. During this initiative, officers conducted extensive observations to determine the scale and impact of the illegal activity.
At present, investigations are actively underway to ascertain the extent of any criminal conduct associated with these locations. The TTPS remains committed to upholding the law, protecting critical national infrastructure, and preserving the environment.
