The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is today hailing a major victory in drug interdiction and its border security operations using the newly installed radar system.
The seized narcotics, identified as Colombian ‘Creepy’ marijuana, weighed over 1,560 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of over $17 million. No arrests were made.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro said this exercise would normally be an all-nighter, but with the new radar and the assistance of multiple agencies, a major breakthrough was made.
“What I am pleased to announce is the first successful operation utilising the newly installed radar system. Trinidad and Tobago, I would not be able to give you information about the technology nor the nature of the operation, but rather show you the success that came from that operation.”
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander was also on the scene of the bust. He noted that the officers involved went the extra mile to protect the country and also commended international help.
“We also want to thank our foreign counterparts, who saw it fit, with the application coming from the Prime Minister, to provide us with some technology that we are able to implement now for success.”
