On Valentine’s Day, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service issued a warning to local residents to beware of romance scammers.
The advisory is urging citizens to be wary of scammers posing as romantic interests on social media and online dating apps.
It adds that people can be lured to meet-ups and then be assaulted and robbed.
The advice is to meet strangers from the internet in public spaces, inform someone of your plans, and share live locations with friends when meeting new people.
