President of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society (TTRCS), Anne-Marie Quammie-Alleyne, has died after reportedly being ill for some time.
She assumed the post in August 2025, succeeding former president Jill De Bourg, who held the position for seven years. Since her appointment, Ms Quammie-Alleyne made few public appearances, with her last known appearance being on February 7 at the TTRCS Children’s Carnival event, where she welcomed and hosted Their Excellencies Christine Carla Kangaloo and First Gentleman Kerwyn Garcia.
Last week, Vice President Edward Moodie was appointed to act as president in Ms Quammie-Alleyne’s absence.
Ms Quammie-Alleyne was a prominent public administrator, gender policy advocate and humanitarian leader. She served in the Office of the Prime Minister’s Gender and Child Affairs Division and played a key role in developing the National Policy on Gender and Development. She also spearheaded major initiatives, including the “16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
Internationally, she advocated for climate resilience and gender mainstreaming at UN Women forums focused on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). In August 2025, she took on what would become her final executive humanitarian leadership role as president of the TTRCS.
Meanwhile, amid the Government’s suspension of funding and reports of alleged mismanagement under the previous administration, Moodie said the society remains committed to restoring stability, transparency and public confidence in the organisation.
He said the organisation has submitted its 2023 financial statements, completed records for 2024 and is actively working to clear the outstanding audit backlog that led to the withholding of its annual subvention. Moodie added that the board is also exploring new revenue streams and operational changes aimed at keeping the organisation financially stable while expanding its services to communities across the country.
Former president Delia Chatoor, who served from 2011 to 2017, paid tribute, saying:
“Dear Lord, eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace and rise in eternal glory.”
