T&T’s Asia-Lee Waller and Amara Urquhart captured the ‘Girls Under-13’ and ‘U-19’ division titles as the second Costa Rica Junior International, hosted by the Costa Rica Badminton Association, concluded on Monday at the BN Arena in San Jose, Costa Rica
Waller, a treble-crown winner in the ‘Girls U-13’ age group at the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Junior Championships last month, made light work of her opponent, Zoe Rodriguez Rodriguez, 21-2, 21-10 in their age-group final.
In the Girls Under-15 singles final, Waller settled for the silver medal after an 8-21, 18-21 loss to Paulina Jimena Cifuentes Morataya.
The top-seeded Urquhart strolled to the ‘Girls U-19’ singles title after she cruised past her countrywoman, Isabelle Waller, 21-8, 21-8 in the all-T&T title decider.
The Urquhart sisters also captured the ‘Girls U-19’ Doubles crown when Amara and Alyiah ended their four-team round-robin series with a perfect 3-0 record.
Liam Persad left with silver after the ‘Boys U-15’ singles final as he was defeated 10-21, 16-21 by Guatemalan, Andres Estuardo Caceros Ovando.
T&T players will now turn attention to the senior Costa Rica Future Series Championships which will take place at the same venue from today, September 9th, until Saturday September 13th.
