The Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation held its annual pageant night over the weekend, and Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen is advocating for activities like this to build camaraderie outside of times of disaster.
She told those gathered that she was happy to see them working as a unit outside of working hours, especially during the Tunapuna Week of festivities.
She said activities such as the Miss Tunapuna Pageant help to build personal character in a group setting.
“It is not only about looking the part. It is also about being intelligent, answering questions, and representing your particular district with pride.”
The event was held at the Cipriani Labour College Auditorium with a full-capacity audience.
Chairman of the Corporation, Josiah Austin, echoed the theme of togetherness. He said the idea for the pageant came directly from the staff and has grown since. He also noted that, as one of the largest regional corporations, the work being done expands beyond this.
“We span as far as Blanchisseuse to Wallerfield to Kelly Village, Warrenville to Mt Hope, so we have a lot to do, and we will be going into each and every electoral district and bringing meaningful service.”
