An early morning high-speed chase in the Western Division resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a quantity of marijuana worth an estimated $1.3 million.
According to police reports, officers of the Western Division along with the Coastal and Riverine and Air Support Units were on patrol around 1:10am on Friday in the Chaguaramas district when they observed
a white pirogue docked close to the shoreline.
The officers also observed a motor vehicle with two male occupants parked a short distance away. On seeing the officers, the men drove off and a chase ensued which ended with the vehicle being intercepted along Abbe Poujade Road.
A search of the vehicle resulted in two crocus bags containing 48.94 kilogrammes of marijuana being found and seized. The drug has an estimated street value of $1.3 million.
The two suspects, ages 41 and 30, both of St. Augustine, were arrested in connection with the find.
