Two Arrested For Firearm And Ammunition Possession In Siparia

Two men are currently in police custody following the seizure of two illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition during a police operation conducted in the Southern Division late Wednesday night.

At approximately 11:30pm on Wednesday 28th August, 2025, officers on mobile patrol in the Penal district received intelligence that two men, allegedly armed with firearms, were seen at a bar located along the S.S. Erin Road, Siparia.

The officers responded immediately and, upon conducting checks at the location, received further information that the suspects had recently left in a black Nissan motor vehicle heading toward the Siparia district.

While proceeding along High Street, Siparia, officers observed a black Nissan vehicle parked near Coora Road, with two men of mixed descent standing nearby. As the officers approached, the men reportedly turned away and began walking along Coora Road. During this time, both suspects allegedly reached towards their waists and discarded items resembling firearms onto the ground.

The officers identified themselves as police and questioned the men about their possession of firearms. A 19-year-old man of Cotton Trace, Siparia, and a 34-year-old man of La Brea Trace, Siparia, were arrested for the recovery of one Beretta pistol with 13 rounds of .380 ammunition and one Bersa pistol with 8 rounds of .380 ammunition.

The suspects were unable to produce Firearm User’s Licences or any legal exemption under the Firearms Act Chapter 16:01.

With the assistance of officers from the Siparia Criminal Investigations Department (CID), both men were transported to the Fyzabad Police Station.
