T&T and University of Texas multi-sport phenom Tyra Gittens smashed a High Jump Meet Record in the Lone Star Showdown on Saturday.
Competing away to her alma-mater Texas A&M, Gittens cleared 1.95 Metres to equal her National Record and Personal Best. She also set a new Cushing Stadium record on her way to winning the Women’s High Jump.
A&M’s Jamaican Junior Lamara Distin was second – she beat Gittens to Gold at the NCAA Indoors in March.
The TTO athlete also followed up her Texas Relays Long Jump win with a Silver medal performance as Texas swept the dual meet.
A 2021 Bowerman Award Finalist while at A&M, Gittens set the National and NCAA Division 1’s Indoor Pentathlon record last season and has already shown signs of mounting a strong title defence in 2022.
