The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, will launch three new postgraduate programmes in Artificial Intelligence beginning in September 2026.
According to the University, the new Master of Applied Science, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy programmes are aimed at doing more than teaching professionals how to use AI.
Instead, it said they are designed to cultivate the next generation of innovators capable of developing artificial intelligence solutions tailored to the Caribbean’s unique needs.
Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Centre at UWI St. Augustine, Dr. Craig Ramlal, described the initiative as a timely response to a pivotal moment for the region.
He said the Caribbean has reached a defining stage in its relationship with artificial intelligence, one that requires investment not only in technology, but also in the people who will create, shape and govern AI systems.
