Valencia Secondary School Career Day

The Valencia Secondary School hosted its annual career day on Tuesday, illuminating the opportunities available to students and highlighting career options not typically placed in the forefront.

Acknowledging that not everyone aspires to become a doctor, lawyer or any of the other professions traditionally thought of as high value, this year’s career day at the Valencia Secondary School showcased diverse and alternative career options.

Joined by counterparts from the Manzanilla Secondary School, the students were given the opportunity to engage with professionals representing several industries. Some offered theoretical information, while others were very hands-on.

Several students were enthusiastic, while others were a little on the shy side, indecisive as to their career path. Teachers at the school agreed that this is a major reason why this approach to the career day is timely.

Present at the career day were representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, an entrepreneur showcasing barbering and even an organisation demonstrating aviation with a flight simulator. Easily the most popular booth at the event.

TT Limited was on hand to shed light on the media industry and to highlight the many professions, on and off air. From radio to graphic design, administrative to technical, presenting and journalism. The students were eager to find out what it takes to be a face, a voice or one of the people behind the scenes making it happen.

Their teachers were equally engaged and were pleased to have the students’ eyes opened to greater possibilities.
