Victoria De Coteau is Trinidad and Tobago’s CIBC Caribbean Unsung Hero 2026.
She was nominated for the award and received TT$34,000 for her work in health outreach, particularly during a partnership between Hands International and the Community Hospital of the Seventh-day Adventist Church earlier this year.
An award event was held today at CIBC Caribbean’s offices in Maraval.
Head of Country (Trinidad) at CIBC Caribbean, Mahadeo Sebarath, congratulated De Coteau for serving as a bridge between volunteers and the hospital when an overwhelming number of patients arrived seeking cataract treatment.
“Particularly as she left her home in Marabella and stayed until very late hours in Cocorite to ensure a smooth flow the next day. To repeat the same rhythm and until Hands International left our shores.”
CIBC Caribbean’s Unsung Heroes campaign highlights and rewards Caribbean women and men across 10 countries who work in their communities and make a difference in the lives of others. Persons are nominated by individuals who want to recognise these selfless heroes.
In her acceptance speech, De Coteau said health outreach brings her joy, especially when helping those in need. She said her winnings will be used to bless others.
“As an individual, I really love people, and I reach out there, and I give as I normally would, and my husband would see the hours I’m coming in. I said, ‘Listen, I can’t help but give meh navel string, meh gallbladder and out all into it’. Simply because of the joy, money can’t pay for that joy and satisfaction that you feel when you see people blessed.”
