Two hundred individuals received wheelchairs courtesy of businesswoman and philanthropist Hannah Janoura.
At the annual distribution ceremony, hosted in Port of Spain over the weekend, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit commended Ms. Janoura for decades of impact.
Since the initiative began more than a decade ago, Ms. Janoura, owner of Janoura’s Custom Design Limited, has donated approximately 1,400 wheelchairs.
Minister Mohit commended Ms. Janoura for her philanthropic and corporate social responsibility efforts.
“Government can’t always do these things alone. We of course require corporate support, and today we say, on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago, Hannah Janoura, we thank you. We thank you sincerely. Of course you don’t do this alone. You do this with the support of all of your support staff, your family and everyone close to you, and on behalf of T&T we say thank you for this support to our country.”
While highlighting the necessity of civil society partnerships, Minister Mohit encouraged recipients to value the provision of the wheelchairs.
“We can’t work without civil society, and they go beyond every barrier they face. When we get these items, appreciate it, treat it as something you have gotten to help you and to allow you to live freely. Keep it and do not, do not sell it. Do not get rid of it. Appreciate it and remember Ms. Hannah Janoura.”
