The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has welcomed the arrival of Windward Islands Airways International (WINAIR), as the regional carrier prepares to launch a new non-stop, twice-weekly air service between Trinidad and St. Maarten.
The service, which begins February 1, 2026, will connect Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten with Piarco International Airport in Port of Spain, marking a significant step forward in regional air connectivity.
According to a media release, the development strengthens direct links between Trinidad and Tobago and one of the Caribbean’s major aviation hubs.

As part of ongoing coordination ahead of the launch, a meeting was held on January 23, 2026, at the Ministry’s Head Office. The session was chaired by Senator the Honourable Eli Zakour, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, and included Mr. Hans van de Velde, Chief Executive Officer of WINAIR, and Mr. Hayden Newton, General Manager of the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, along with officials from both organizations.
Minister Zakour welcomed WINAIR’s entry into the Trinidad and Tobago market, noting that the new service will enhance regional connectivity while supporting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. He described the new route as a positive development for both business and leisure travelers and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding air transport options and strengthening regional integration.
The Ministry stated it looks forward to working closely with WINAIR and all stakeholders to ensure the successful launch and sustainable operation of the service, further strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s ties with the wider Caribbean region.
