A Woman Police Constable is due to appear before a Master of the High Court at the Chaguanas Police Station on Friday 22nd August, 2025, after she was charged with three counts of Larceny by Trick.
WPC No. 8193 Misty Mitchell was formally charged at the Caroni Police Station by Ag Sgt Joefield yesterday 21st August, 2025.
According to police reports, an investigation ensued following a report of Larceny by Trick made on Wednesday 23rd July, 2025. The report alleged that in March 2025, a Woman Police Constable obtained $35,000, from a man by falsely representing that she could expedite his Firearm User’s Licence application. Subsequently, in May 2025, she demanded an additional $15,000, which she arranged to collect on Saturday 26th July, 2025.
On Saturday 26th July, 2025, officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), with the assistance of officers of a specialized unit, conducted a sting operation at a Service Station, located in Chaguanas. During the exercise, the suspect was arrested. She was searched, and the sum of $2,000, which had been provided to her by the victim, was found in her possession. She was subsequently conveyed to the Caroni Police Station for safekeeping.
Following further enquiries, officers acted on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, and the suspect was released pending further enquiries.
Investigations continued, and on Thursday 21st August, 2025, WPC Mitchell was re-arrested. Later that day, following further consultation with the DPP, she was charged with three counts of Larceny by Trick for the following incidents:
* Sometime between 5th and 10th March, 2025 – stealing the sum of $17,000 by trick.
* On Friday 14th March, 2025 – stealing the sum of $18,000 by trick.
* On Saturday 26th July, 2025 – stealing the sum of $2,000 by trick.
Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, strongly condemned the actions of the officer, stating:
“The Commissioner’s discretion in the issuance of Firearm User’s Licences (FULs) is not a commodity. Any attempt to compromise this process, whether by members of the public or officers within the ranks, will be met with swift, uncompromising action.
We do not flinch from investigating, charging, and prosecuting our own. If you choose to barter integrity for greed, understand this: you risk not only your freedom, but your career, your reputation, and your future.
I urge all to allow the legal process to unfold without interference. But let this moment stand as a clear warning, those engaged in corrupt practices must cease and desist immediately. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will not be complicit in silence, nor will it be gentle in response.”
