The Tobago Information Technology Limited remains dedicated to building a smart island and innovation hub through its annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) camp.
The programme empowers students to move beyond being passive technology users and become active creators and innovators.
Business Service Manager Alicia Davis Guerra said that the STEM camp will continue its focus this year, offering a hands-on learning approach for children from as young as three up to age 17.
“So we have a lot of dedicated tutors on board who are specialists in their fields, so for the early explorers, which are the three- to five-year-olds, we have engaged ECC tutors, and along with our guidance we are tailoring just that for the younger ones in terms of getting them exposed to aspects of coding, AI, etc., things like navigation, science because it’s never too early to start them in that.”
Marketing specialist Eddison Thomas noted that the camp will feature three main categories designed to cater to each student’s interest.
“This year, each child will be going through a different path, especially when they go to the STEM camp. The 16-17s there are three different paths actually. There are the gigabits, which deals more with coding and robotics, there are the motion masters that deals more with media, and there is the creative catalyst that deals with more digital creativity.”
Mr Thomas further noted that the camp will help students hone critical skills that will later support their entry into the employment market.
“That will inspire them to become future innovators or lead them down a path they could go into the future, whether it be the subjects in secondary school, or choosing CXC subjects or even a career path but we definitely want to see that investment pay off.”
Ms Guerra said the children’s love of learning will be nurtured through STEM, promoting natural curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving through hands-on play.
