A 20-year-old undocumented Venezuelan national has been arrested and a significant quantity of cannabis and a firearm and ammunition seized during a targeted intelligence-led operation in the Northern Division.
The exercise, which took place between 11:30AM and 5:45PM yesterday, was a joint effort involving various law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of National Security. The operation, titled ‘Camp Shake,’ saw collaboration between the Special Operations Unit (S.O.U), led by ACP Richard Smith and Senior Superintendent Roger Alexander, and supervised by Inspector St. Clair and Sergeant Baptiste, as well as officers from the TTPS’ Canine Unit and the National Security Special Operations Group (NSSOG) under the leadership of Lieutenant Commander Clement.
The operation was executed in the Heights of Guanapo, Arima, within the Arima Police Station District. While searching a forested area in the region, officers discovered and seized four large packages of cannabis weighing a total of 103.1 kilogrammes. The narcotics has an approximate street value of TT$1,814,560.00.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Arima Police Station, following advice and communication from the Immigration Department Enforcement Section.
In addition to the drugs, officers also discovered a loaded 9mm Beretta pistol and 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which were concealed within a makeshift plastic tent.
This exercise underscores the continued commitment of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies to tackle criminal activity and reinforce national security.
