The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (MOWI) is advancing its recruitment process to fill 1,100 vacancies, following the recent National Recruitment Drive (NRD) held at the National Cycling Velodrome, Balmain, Couva, from 19th to 24th October 2025,
The vacancies in the MOWI span a range of operational and technical roles, including labourers, semi-skilled labourers, tradesmen assistants, electricians, mechanics, heavy equipment operators, medium equipment operators, plumbers, masons, carpenters, watchmen, river control workers, polishers and heavy loaders.
During the initial NRD application process, the Ministry received over 28,000 applications, out of which approximately 6,800 applications would have applied for positions of Labourers.
On Friday, November 14th 2025, the Ministry began its mass screening for the first cohort of candidates for Labourers. The screening exercise will continue until Friday, November 21st 2025. The MOWI will be processing, on average, 1,000 applicants per day.
Applicants from the screening process range between 20 and 45 years old, and importantly, the majority are unemployed individuals eager for the opportunity to enter the workforce.
The screening process includes:
- Orientation sessions outlining the Ministry’s operations, expectations of the workers and job requirements,
- A 15–30 minute physical fitness assessment to ensure candidates are physically prepared to cope with the rigours and demands of their roles, and
- An interview session to evaluate the applicants’ overall suitability.
The Ministry is working towards a December 1st 2025 date to deploy shortlisted Labourers on a probation period. Those successful following the probation period, will be deployed to MOWI District Offices across the country to support several priority projects earmarked for execution.
