Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – On Saturday 11th April 2026, young women and girls across Trinidad and Tobago participated in the “Tech4Girls: Make AI Work for You” workshop, hosted by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) in observance of International Girls in ICT Day.
Delivered both online and at AI Centres nationwide, the initiative equipped participants with practical skills to use artificial intelligence to strengthen their voices and pursue new career opportunities.
The training coincided with the global mission of International Girls in ICT Day, aimed at empowering girls and young women to pursue studies and careers in the field of information and communication technologies, equipping them with the skills and confidence to lead in the digital world.
Senator the Honourable Dominic Smith, Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, delivered the opening address, underscoring the Government’s commitment to building a digital-first nation.
He highlighted that establishing the region’s first AI-focused Ministry creates a framework in which every citizen, particularly young women, can thrive.
Emphasising the potential of women in technology, he stated, “”Your voices, your experiences and your perspectives are essential to building systems that work for everyone. Your presence at the table is powerful. It shapes outcomes, it influences decisions and it defines the future we are building together.”
The Minister further noted that leadership in the digital age is defined by human judgment and critical thinking, and urged attendees to take full advantage of the national AI readiness initiatives and regional partnerships with innovators such as OpenAI and Grammarly.
Tech4Girls is a collaborative annual event hosted by TATT in partnership with the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO), GSMA, bmobile, Flow, Verizon, Tobago Information Technology Limited (TITL) and Restore A Sense of I CAN (RSC).
The two-day workshop delivers practical training in Digital Influence, AI Awareness, Leadership, Branding and Digital Marketing, with more than 600 young women and girls set to benefit from this initiative.
