Kavem Hodge struck an unbeaten 83 runs to put the West Indies with the upper hand against Pakistan on Day One of their historic Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Despite rain delays which restricted play to 67 overs, Hodge built key partnerships, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul, as well as Shai Hope who remained unbeaten on 39, guiding the hosts to 194 for 3 at stumps.
Hodge and Hope’s unbroken stand of 88 steadied the innings after early wickets.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas was the pick of the bowlers, but Hodge’s resilience ensured the West Indies ended the day with the match finely balanced heading into day two, which bowls off at 10am on Sunday.
