UTT Signs Strategic Partnerships To Advance Education Delivery And Marine Research

The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) continues to strengthen its role as a catalyst for national and regional development through the recent signing of two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at advancing inclusion and diversity in education and pioneering marine research in the Caribbean.

The agreements, signed with the Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Hearing Impaired (TTAHI) and the Caribbean Cetacean Society (CCS), reinforce UTT’s commitment to creating meaningful partnerships that address critical societal and environmental challenges through innovation, research, education and collaboration.

Through its partnership with TTAHI, UTT will work to strengthen access to education and support services for learners with hearing disabilities across Trinidad and Tobago.  The collaboration will focus on enhancing professional training and educational opportunities for individuals working with students who experience hearing loss, expanding sign language interpretation services and exploring the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to improve accessibility in teaching and learning environments.

The initiative represents a significant step toward creating a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape, ensuring that persons with hearing impairments are empowered to fully participate in academic and professional life.

UTT also formalised a partnership with CCS to support groundbreaking marine research and conservation initiatives throughout the Caribbean.  Through the resulting CALYPSO Project, the first integrated, basin-wide scientific expedition of its kind, both organisations will collaborate to address critical knowledge gaps relating to marine life and ocean ecosystems in the region.

The partnership seeks to establish a shared scientific evidence base to support transboundary conservation efforts, strengthen regional ocean governance and contribute to the development of new marine protected areas aimed at safeguarding the Caribbean’s rich diversity for future generations.

These strategic partnerships underscore UTT’s ongoing commitment to advancing research, innovation, sustainability and social development through meaningful engagement with national, regional and international stakeholders.

As a university dedicated to transforming lives and communities through knowledge, UTT remains committed to facilitating dialogue, fostering innovation and creating opportunities which positively impact society while contributing to the sustainable development of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region.
