Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development Dr. Kennedy Swaratsingh says The Finance (Supplementation and Variation of Appropriation) Bill 2026 , will support efforts to modernize public service delivery and strengthen social programmes.
In the Senate on Wednesday, Dr. Swaratsingh highlighted government’s push toward digitization, including online payment services and improved access to government agencies.
“Through the National Payment and Innovation Center, NPCICTT, and the agencies such as the Public Transport Service Corporation and other agencies are providing citizens for the first time with the ability to purchase and to engage with government online. You can purchase your bus tickets. Social development checks will soon be going out through online methods.”
The Minister also emphasized the importance of social protection, saying funding under the bill will support programmes aimed at assisting vulnerable families and improving citizens’ quality of life.
“The funding to be provided through the Ministry of the People and Social Development and Family Service continues to be one of the priorities of this administration, which fosters care, children’s programs, and support for vulnerable families. These are more than abstract budget lines for us, they are interventions that directly benefit ordinary citizens through investments and social stability social protection, and of course, national well being.”
