TTPS Reports 38% Decrease In Serious Crimes In North Eastern Division

The North Eastern Division is reporting a thirty-eight percent decrease in serious crimes.

Police say intensified operations including warrant exercises and targeted searches have contributed to the reduction.

Despite challenges in crime trends, the North Eastern Division implemented strategies to ensure a decrease in serious crimes.

During the TTPS Media Briefing on Wednesday, Head of the Division, Senior Superintendent Claire Guy – Alleyne, explained.

“For the period 1st January 2026 to the 15th of June 2026, the Northeastern Division has recorded a 38% decrease in serious reported crimes. That means less than 192 crimes when compared to the same period last year.”

A further breakdown of that data revealed a 54% decrease of woundings and a 75% decrease in kidnappings, and major improvements for larceny of motor vehicles.

“When we look at larceny motor vehicles, that was an offence that really plagued the North Eastern Division in previous years, including last year we had 54 this year we have 26 reported, which is a 52% decrease.”

The division’s detection rate at this time stands at 27%.

However, murders still pose a significant challenge for the division, with a current murder toll of 24, four more than this period last year.

As a result, Acting Inspector Ryan Ramsingh, explained operations had to be intensified.

“From the roadblock exercises a total of nine hundred and ninety-five fixed penalty notices were issued, a total of one hundred and forty-two persons were arrested for various offences, we would have had a hundred and forty-seven warrants were executed by members of our warrants staff, we would have targeted over five hundred and ten priority offenders, and we would’ve searched just over one hundred and fifty-five drug blocks.”

Twenty-two people were detained through preventative detention orders under the resumption of the State of Emergency, twelve of whom were charged.

Acting Inspector Ramsingh said the officers of the North Eastern Division are actively pursuing five priority offenders, for woundings and shootings.
