Piarco International Airport is set to welcome another airline, with the new carrier expected to begin operations in October.
Speaking at a pre-Budget consultation in Caroni East on Tuesday, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour said the new airline will begin operating later this year.
“The government approved eight Air Service Agreements with various countries, and in the first six months of being in office two new airlines started coming to Trinidad. You had InterCaribbean and WinAir. And a third airline is starting in October. We have also been working tirelessly to address all the issues affecting our national airline.”
Minister Zakour added that operations at Caribbean Airlines have been improving as the government moves to correct some of the company’s problem areas.
“Recently I would have spoken in Parliament. We would have stopped a couple of routes which lost US$18 million since 2023 – 18 million US. These routes were just a handful of passengers. So there is a lot we are also doing regarding Caribbean Airlines.”
