As Government prepares to unveil its 2026/2027 fiscal package, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism Satyakama Maharaj says his Ministry’s priority is securing support for initiatives aimed at diversifying the economy.
He said Trinidad and Tobago must reduce its dependence on oil and gas and develop new sectors capable of driving growth and creating jobs.
The Minister also outlined his vision for the tourism sector, arguing that Government’s role should be to facilitate investment rather than directly lead tourism development.
“We are focused on the diversification of the economy beyond oil and gas on three platforms; Trade, investment and tourism. Well, we are facilitators and policymakers, and we are focused on encouraging the private sector locally and internationally to invest. And we’re creating the environment for them to do so.”
