Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Trinidad and Tobago for its support following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24th.
In a letter dated July 8th, Ms Rodriguez wrote to Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and expressed the gratitude of the Venezuelan Government and people for Trinidad and Tobago’s relief aid following the disaster (see letters below).
She said, “These demonstrations of support have been a beacon of hope in times of sorrow and reaffirm that the path between nations is solidarity.”
In her response, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar recalled a telephone conversation between the two leaders on June 26th, during which she advised President Rodriguez that Trinidad and Tobago had activated a major public-private sector humanitarian relief initiative for Venezuela.
The first shipment, comprising more than 230 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, arrived at the International Port of La Guaira on July 10th.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar also confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago continues to work with Venezuelan authorities to facilitate the delivery of more aid.
“We are also collaborating with the relevant authorities in your country to facilitate the shipment of requested vaccines to Venezuela via Caribbean Airlines. As stated in my letter to Your Excellency dated June 29, 2026, Trinidad and Tobago has also been actively approving a series of overflight requests from several countries to facilitate international humanitarian relief efforts to Venezuela.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to supporting its closest neighbour, saying the shared geography, history and longstanding friendship between the two countries call for compassion, solidarity and practical cooperation during times of adversity.
She assured Acting President Rodriguez that Trinidad and Tobago will remain ready to assist the Venezuelan people whenever natural disasters or humanitarian challenges require support.
“Madam President, I wish to assure you that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago remains deeply committed to working closely with you and your Government to ensure that Venezuela emerges from this tragedy stronger than ever and that the bilateral relationship between our two countries continues to grow and prosper.”
