AMCHAM T&T HSSE Conference Highlights ‘Human Factors’ In Safety Culture

‘Human Factors’ is the theme of the American Chamber of Commerce Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) 2024 Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Conference and Exhibition.

The 28th Annual HSSE Conference and Exhibition will see discussions addressing themes such as psychological safety, crisis management, and cybersecurity, while the Exhibition will host over 60 booths showcasing several services.

During the Opening Ceremony, AMCHAM President Stuart Franco said the theme is particularly relevant as it focusses on the critical role that the human element plays in building strong, resilient safety cultures within organisations and communities.

“Today, we find ourselves at a point in our nation’s history where the weight of our challenges can often feel overwhelming, threatening to crush our hopes for a better future. Yes, I want to stress that the message I want you to carry forward today from this Conference is not one of doom and gloom. Yes, we are facing pressing issues that threaten our future but history has shown us time and time again that adversity brings out the best in us.”

He said the goal must be to create workplaces where employees thrive and not just survive.

“In today’s fast-paced work environments, the pressure to perform often overshadows safety considerations but it’s vital that we shift our perspective from seeing our team members as potential liabilities, and instead recognise them as assets in our safety efforts. By prioritising their physical and psychological well-being, we can create and cultivate a culture of safety that not only prevents accidents, but enhances productivity and job satisfaction.”

The two-day Conference and Exhibition is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel until November 13th 2024.
